From Paideuterion we put all our efforts in empowering great little people, making available a quality education, inclusive, enhancing dialogue, curiosity and the desire to learn.
The beginnings of our school date back to a teaching academy in the Plazuela de Santo Domingo, in 1938. It was directed by D. Aurelio Luna Soto, who was also the one who gave it the ingenious name of which we are so proud: PAIDEUTERION, a name of Greek origin, which is evidence of the great culture of D. Aurelio and means "Place of Teaching". Although nowadays we also like to use the affectionate appellative of "PADU".
In the 1942-43 school year it began to operate as a school in the Palacio de la Duquesa de Valencia. The following year we find it in its current location on Sierpes Street, where previously were the Old Parish Schools of San Mateo.
During the 50's, the Paideuterion taught elementary school, high school and pre-university. Later, the boarding school was opened, where students from all over the province arrived and which remained open until 1978, since the increase in the number of students due to the prestige that the center had already acquired, made it necessary for its premises to be transformed into classrooms.
Very Present
In 1976, Aurelio Luna sold the school to José Montes Pintado, who held the ownership until 1980, the year in which the teachers bought the school and the Sociedad Cooperativa de Trabajo Asociado "Colegio Paideuterion" was created.
In the 1990s, the members of the Cooperative worked to expand the services offered by the center and renovated it by constructing a new building with twelve classrooms, laboratories, library, assembly hall, central heating, gymnasium.....
In the year 2000, the school carried out a new expansion of about 1000 square meters, creating four new classrooms, a computer room, a drawing room, two more laboratories and thus was able to implement the LOGSE baccalaureate.
In addition, there have also been pedagogical changes. In the 2005-06 school year, after several months of information and training, the school was transformed into a Learning Community, which has been developed in the other school years up to the present.
Moving Forward
The last project undertaken by the center, motivated by the need and with much sadness on their part, to close the high school stage, has been to carry out a new work and transform part of the facilities into a first cycle nursery school: The "Peque-Padu".
Many have been the teachers who have passed through our classrooms imparting their work and good work, but it is worth mentioning some of those who have managed to occupy positions of relevance in activities outside the center, as well as famous students. This is the case of José Mª Saponi, Carmen Heras, José Mº Corrales, Luis Merino, Laureano León, Alfredo Escribano, Luciano Fernández, Clemente Checa, Alonso de la Torre, etc... And to name one of our last illustrious, the Olympic archer Antonio Fernández.
During the Cooperative period, teachers such as Antonio Ruiz, Ceferino González, José Mª Rey, Amalio Sanz and Pablo Cidoncha have been in charge of the school. Today our director is Diego Boticario Villarroel.
We cannot fail to mention the Paideuterion handball club, with which the school has excelled at regional and national level, reaping countless successes, thanks mainly to its president for more than thirty years, José Arellano.
This is our school, a school with history and future, tradition in Cáceres, a community of teachers, students and families in the historic center of the city.
